J. M. W. TURNER 1775 - 1851 Art Folio with 16 Color Plates & Bio

Description: Joseph Turner 1775 - 1851 Folio with 16 Color Plates (8 double-sided) plus 8 page biography and plate descriptions While there are numerous art publications on British artist Joseph Turner, this one is really different. First, there is no publication information at all on either the text pages or the plates. Pages are loose, not bound and show no signs of ever having been bound. Page size for both text and plates is 9 3/4" x 13 3/4". Text pages are numbered 9-16 giving the impression this may have been part of a larger art folio. Pages are semi-gloss fine art paper. The biography is uncredited and the text pages contain two additional smaller black & white reproductions of Turner's work on loan to the Tate Gallery. It is possible that the Tate Gallery may have has something to do with this but in a comprehensive online search I could find no Tate Gallery publications on Turner that corresponded to this. The upside of having separate pages is that any of the prints could easily be framed. One downside though is that there is a print on both sides of the page. (Plate 2 is on the verso of Plate 1, Plate 4 on the verso of Plate 3, etc.) All plates are numbered and described with titles and images in black & white as you can see in the sample pictures. A defect that should be noted is some kind of light smudge/stain that appears on the corner margin of most of the plates, but is most evident on plates 15 & 16. Having no idea of the date, publisher or value of this item, we have assigned an arbitrary $25.00 price, which is probably too low. Sold "as is" - no refunds, no returns.
