Description: RARE Antiquarian Book 1737 ! Isaac Ambrose, Volume includes various works from Prima, Media, & Ultima, Puritan Doctrine, Family Life, Doomsday, Purgatory, The New Birth, Prayers, Presbyterian foundation. BY AMBROSE, ISAAC USED , Fair condition HARDCOVER 1737 Isaac Ambrose Prima Media & Ultima Puritan Doctrine Prayers Presbyterian faith. Isaac Ambrose was a 17th-century English Puritan and was an important figure in the establishment of Presbyterianism. His religious works resonated not only with Nonconformist Puritans but also with intrigued readers, perhaps mostly because Ambrose avoided political controversy throughout his literary career. Particularly during the Jacobite wars . "Prima, Media, and Ultima" is a collection of meditations, prayers, and liturgical sayings on a variety of subjects including death and dying, heaven and hell, Christian doctrine, godly living, and devotionals. AMBROSE, Isaac ~ Prima ; the first things, in reference to the middle and last things ; or, the doctrine of regeneration, the new birth, the very beginning of a godly life. Glasgow : Printed for Archibald Ingram, 1737. Details: Wanting a general title page and COVER , numerous signatures which are all still attached together . Signature "The New Birth" is detached. Provenance: Found as is in Family paperwork. Nelson County, VA. We are Clan Boyd descendants, with strong Scottish connections that continued into the the 18th century. Found among my G Grandmother Addie Carter Brent Bryant's papers it also occurs to me that she was a descendent of Robert 'King' Carter and this probably came through his line. Although there are many Scotts in my family tree including the Bryant line and Ambrose was read by many of the time and is reprinted to this day. It's hard to be sure. Language: English Binding: Lost, unbound, signatures still attached together except one. Size: ~ 7 in X 6 in Inspect Photos carefully as they are part of this discription. Please remember this is a RARE Antiquarian Book. 1737 is a very long time ago. In just 13 years it will be 300 years Old ! It's very existence is a wonder to me. I think it probably went into a pile on a desk or a shelf to be rebound in the 19th century. From there it was perhaps shuffled around a little more until it was buried in other casualties of life and wound up in a barrel with lots of other stuff including ledgers, letters and receipts. Probably to be dealt with after the Civil War. It may have briefly resurfaced or remained forgotten with all of our past papers in a barrel. It somehow even managed to survive Hurricane Cameille in 1969. It just had to wait until My parents began to go through things in the life long clean up of our family farm, every summer we became conservators and historians taking stock of our generational crisis Camille and here it is. Some old Jacobite book in pile of farm business and personal correspondence in my library. I am not comfortable handling it knowing how old it is. It's not worth damaging an 18th century book for more photos. It is what it is. It's got it's obvious condition issues which are well represented in the photos. The only torn/cut pages found are pictured. There may be missing pages but without counting each page I don't know. It will need restoration and rebinding. I hope to find the someone who will be interested in this treasure. This book is being sold as is, as found. All sales are final. I'm not a book seller but I research everything extensively. I was able to find enough comparables to feel confident in my asking price.I am open to reasonable offers. Please ask questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability. Will be shipped with signature required. Hopefully the right person comes along to restore this amazing piece of Scottish, Church, Virginia and US History. Book cover lost .
