You sail to island towns, collecting resources, hiring crew, and commissioning buildings for your capital city. Each building has a unique ability, and your combination of buildings can greatly enhance your strength as a trader, builder, or invader. You also recruit pirates and sea monsters to conquer towns, which, once conquered, allow you to complete the town action for free, and charge a fee to opponents if they want to use it. Alternatively, you can complete events that give influence, which can be used to befriend towns.There are many routes to success. When you play with this expansion, you set up an extra row of cards above the normal building cards. Only three cards are available to purchase, and they require you to have one, two, or three books (depending on where they are in the row). You also must have one normal building for every Metropolis building you own. Because they're a little harder to get, each Metropolis card is worth +1 renown.Deep Fog PromoA mysterious creature has risen from the deep, shrouding the archipelago in a thick, mysterious fog. Navigate your way through the treacherous mists, building your strength and increasing your influence, until you can finally defeat the monster. Or perhaps politely ask it to go away?Deep Fog is a bonus scenario for Islebound, which includes one 2-sided card and an instruction sheet. As the rules explain succinctly, "With Deep Fog, players navigate through a rotating stack of sea boards instead of laying them out in a fixed map. The game ends when a player is able to defeat the fog monster, either through military prowess or diplomacy."
