INTERVIEW MAGAZINE Volume XX,XXI Five Issues VERY GOOD-FINE Condition Over the course of its first print life (1969-2008), Interview Magazine cemented the relationship between high fashion, high art, and whatever kind of celebrity. It started out as grungier but more artsy variant of Rolling Stone: Paul Morrissey was one of the early editors and his career DEFINES grungy artsiness. Early issues mimicked Rolling Stones' 1960s tabloid format. Like Rolling Stone, Interview graduated itself to a large flat format (larger than Rolling Stone). With the new format, the covers became the calling card: the Richard Bernstein covers would scream at the mere thought of being folded and fronted for an interior that included a flock of likely and unlikely interviews (Fassbinder, Roy Cohn, Thomas Enders . . . ) along with well bred ad pages from high end advertisers (who were happy to be sandwiched by a cover that refused to let itself be folded). While the advertised merchandise reached for some extravagant price points, and while the magazine itself was appropriately extravagant - the 1980s issues were a spectacular 11 x 17, the nineties issues spared a few trees at 11 x 14 - it was also pretty cheap. Cover price in the 1980s was $2, in the 1990s it was 2.95. Priced per pound, any comic book was 10 times more expensive. These issues of Interview are in very good to fine condition with some wear. Warhol continued to act as an ambassador for the magazine, distributing issues in the street to passersby and creating ad-hock signing events on the streets of Manhattan, New York City. In the spirit of the magazine, all issues will be shipped flat, bagged and boarded.
