Description: Four prints of the set of famous engravings by Amos Doolittle (1754-1832). ( Original engravings are still in possession of the Chicago Historical Society”.) These prints were made by the Donnelly Co and released to potential customers to advertise and impress upon them their unique skills in historical print-making techniques of high quality. These were done in a small run ,for a very limited audience, and are very difficult to source now -especially in near-fine condition, like these. Quite suitable for framing! The subject is the American Revolution, during the Battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775. CONTENTS: Plate I. Battle of Lexington. -- Plate II. View of the town of Concord. -- Plate III. Engagement at the North Bridge in Concord. -- Plate IV. View of the South part of Lexington. There are four beautiful prints (each measures approximately 15" x 20" from edge to edge). They are reproduced by the Donnelly Deeptone Offset process ,from the original engravings. The 4 come housed in the original printed folder, with orig. tissue-guard still in place between the lithographs and booklet. Included is the original Lakeside Press multi-page Bklt. describing them all, and the original printed sheet ,showing the 1974 date received by LAKESIDE PRESS advertising department. These were printed ca 1970’s.“To make this reproduction set of the original Doolittle engravings, Donnelly craftsmen-technicians used film from cameras equipped with computerized light control to achieve results which are faithful to the original artwork. The film was developed with (then) recently formulated chemicals which were carefully harmonized with the film itself and the machine processing systems then in use in Donnelly plants. The results were then checked with space-age, photo-sensitive optical instruments.”“The reproduction offset litho prints were printed in six special permanent fade-proof ink colors by their Chicago manufacturing division, on white Stoneridge Text, basis 25x 38-80 lb..” ( These were stated in the booklet to be non-fading.) Please ask if you have any questions remaining. These will be carefully packed, and insured after your payment is received.
