The blade of the sword is marked for the Number 8 Train Battalion yet the unit markings on the hilt and scabbard read “3.C.17”. It measures 38” overall in the scabbard and the blade measures 32.75” in length. This sword was made during the British occupation of Germany from 1919 to 1929. These swords were purchased privately and thus do not feature acceptance marks. It features makers marks on the right side of the ricasso showing a “C C0 and a K” below a crown and crossed swords. The scabbard is in fair condition as most of the finish is worn and there is pitting. It has two intact hanger rings. The handguard is in good condition with some dents and pitting. The grip is in excellent condition and has held up well. The blade itself is free of chips and it is sharp with an original edge. There is some black discoloration and some wear from the scabbard. The engravings are sharp and well defined. Overall, this sword is an excellent display of history and would stand as a venerable piece in your collection. Sword is pictured.
