Description: Illuminated 1854 Alcatraz Lighthouse - First on West Coast - Lefton #2847 The original Alcatraz lighthouse, constructed in 1854, was the first lighthouse built on the US West Coast. The lighthouse served as a navigational aid for over 50 years. The cottage-style lighthouse building was replaced by the taller 95 foot structure in 1909 because it was no longer tall enough to shine over the new cellhouse. Bottom of piece has Lefton sticker and Lefton China hand painted sticker. Geo Z Lefton with year created etched into the item. Was probably gently used, and is in great condtion. Small chip on railing around light (shown in photo and could probably be covered with marker or paint). Stored in the original box after use. From a clean non-smoking home. As shown in photo, original box is plain, with name of piece and issue number, and shows signs of use with smudging near the top edge. Questions ???
