Illinois ILLINI is quite the rare watch to begin with and one that comes with a 15 Karat Solid Gold Enamel Embellished Case is such an exquisite pocket watch. We have only came across pocket watches in many years that doesn’t fall into the 9K, 10K, 14K, and 18K standard gold alloys. It must’ve been made as a special batch of custom order and for whatever reason 15Kt was used instead of the standard 14Kt. The Illinois ILLINI itself is a 3-star rarity watch having been manufactured at the tail-end of this storied watchmaking brand’s history. Generally speaking Illinois is one of the best quality American manufacturers of watches that had workmanship rivaling the Swiss. The ILLINI Grade 538 was a good example why in the 1910-20s Americans were still competent to make high quality products to compete against Swiss makes. Condition-wise the watch winds and runs well but we cannot make any guarantee on function as it is over 100 years old and we have not had it serviced. It looks like a strong runner so it needs nothing more than regular service to get it running superbly. Any maintenance or upkeeping is the sole responsibility of the end user. Cosmetically the watch is in great shape for its age with nearly all of the enamel still intact (one spade ornamentation has some loss near the pendant). The caseback has slight bit of unevenness when seen at various light angles and we don’t see specific dings or dents. Silver colored original dial is in good shape with slight scratches and discoloration. It comes with the original Illinois ILLINI-model box with makes it even better as a set. Diameter measures at 43mm, total weight 52.3g. PURCHASE TERMS: PAYMENT We only accept payment made by eBay managed payment.
