Description: IGBO NIGERIAN MASK Acali Style Afikpo Carved Wood for Festival Ceremony & Ritual. Measures approximately 11" and the box measures 18" x 10.5". 20th century, probably around 50-70 years old. We received this item from a collector of African material culture. This style of mask from the Afikpo Igbo people are known to be typically smaller and narrow, vertically oriented, and project forward from the face with the raffia collar that fastens to the head. Another key feature of this style of mask is the tear marks that descend from the eyes to the cheeks. Appears to be in great vintage condition. Please see images for clarity. Comes in a thick plexiglass display. The mask is slightly off centered, so it could be removed from the display entirely or simply removed, straightened, and then put back into the display.
