Description: Howard Terpning THE APACHE FIRE MAKERS limited edition print. (Edition print/size 145/1000) (Print size 35”w x 26 3/4”h) Howard Terpning is known as THE STORY TELLER of the Native American Indian...... this is the story of The Apache Fire Makers It is simply an image of one Apache building up twigs while the other blows on the spark he created with flint and steel. “Simply” perhaps but not simple. A picture of the Plains Indian way of life in all its detail - both glorious and simple. The calvary saddle in the foreground places the scene in the tumultuous period of the 1880’s, when the settlers and the Army stepped up their conflict with the native peoples."The Apache took the saddle off a troopers horse” and altered it with a piece of hide on the seat. That bit of historical knowledge shows that The Apache Fire Maker is more than handsome piece of art, it is a historical testament to the period of the early 1880' s. I purchased this print from Greenwich Workshop in 1993. It is stored ideally in its individual folio between two acid free tissues. Shipped FLAT - Secured between two 1/4” Plywood Panels - boxed by UPS Fyi: I am a Korean War Veteran (USMC) it is time I found a new home for my prints. Thanks for coming by and taking a look.
