House on Fulton Street/Sitting Figure, Newark-Oil Painting-C. 1958-Adolf Konrad

Description: This is a 7 7/8 by 4 1/2 inch (image size)oil painting on masonite/board. It depicts almost definitely a house on Fulton Street(probably the artist's)in Newark, N.J. done around the late 1950s. It shows a figure sitting outside the house. It was done by Newark, N.J. well-listed artist Adolf Konrad. It is not marked that it is on Fulton Street but I am very familiar with the artist's work and I also have a somewhat larger Konrad painting of the almost identical building and it is in titled on back "House on Fulton Street." Konrad lived on Fulton Street for several years and did paintings of his street and Newark neighborhood that are among his most known and desirable artwork. With the frame it measures 10 3/4 by 7 1/2 inches. The painting is in excellent condition. The frame is very good to excellent. It will be shipped via UPS for $25. See the photos. Konrad was influenced most philosophically by by Georgio De Chirico.He was a student of Bernard Gussow and was a teacher at The Newark School of Fine & Industrial Art. He is well-known for having created some of the most compelling and charming paintings of Newark as well as subtle surreal scenes involving landscape,women,musicians and architecture.He is one of New Jersey's finest painters in the last 80 years.His work is in museums,corporate collections and private collections.
