Known by various names such as Koshari, Koyala, Hano, or Tewa, the clown depicted holds sacred significance within Hopi culture. Often present at Katsina ceremonies, the Koshari works to maintain a positive and religious atmosphere within the community. He is regarded as a powerful figure, both sacred and profane, and is considered the father of Kachinas. Skillfully hand carved from cottonwood and adorned with hair and suede, Andrew's Koyala stands out with its unique characteristics and distinct personality. Its facial features, posture, and body movements offer insights into the Hopi way of life. The bottom is marked with " 'Koyala' Clown, GROVER". MeasurementsOverall 15" T x 8.5" x 6"Net weight 12.00 oz This Koyala Kachina shows signs of age and previous display.
