Description: Home For Holidays Jay Mcvey - Bitzer's Fiands Mill Bridge Ephrata, Pennsylvania Postcard Jay McVey (1922-1981) was born in Ephrata Pennsylvania. He spent a few years away at art schools, work and WWII. All of the McVey postcards are reproductions of local Lancaster outnumber scenes from his paintings. They are signed, of continental size, horizontal format with matte finish. Friends of Ephrata Public Library held a holiday greeting card fundraiser from 1971-1978. This postcard is from Series #3 an oil painting 1972 Home for the Holidays in Lancaster County of Fiands Mill Bridge. The Bitzer's Mill Covered Bridge is a covered bridge that spans the Conestoga River in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It is the oldest bridge in the county still in use. The bridge was built in 1846. The bridge is also called Martin's Mill Bridge, Eberly's Cider Mill Covered Bridge, and Fiand's/Fiantz's Covered Bridge. The bridge has a single span, wooden, double Burr arch trusses design with the addition of steel hanger rods. The deck is made from oak planks. The bridge is painted red on the outside, the traditional color of Lancaster County covered bridges. The inside of the bridge is not painted. Please review the photos carefully for condition and detail. Normal wear associated with an old postcard have creases, corner bumps, scratches, ink on the front etc.
