This is the very collectible Rembrandt Edition Family Bible, containing 44 full color plates by t Rembrandt as well as scores of beautiful drawings and etchings by the same artist. The book is large sized 11 5/8 by 8 3/4" by 3" thick in medium red leather hard cover with oval gilded embossing of the Resurrected Christ on the front, gilded title on the spine, and with three 1" wide silk marker ribbons in black, white and red. There is an illuminated manuscript style Family History section in the front as well as an Encyclical by Pope Pius XII, "Divino Afflante Spiritu" on the Promotion of Biblical Studies, also, a special inter-Testamental section in illuminated manuscript style of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount'. The back portions contain a full section of colored maps and a study on Rembrandt as a Bible illustrator, The volume has a pale gold edged page block and the two Testaments are separately enumerated: 1078 for the Old, 330 for the New. Condition of the Bible is graded Almost Fine The Bible is used, but quite gently and had one couple as previous owners and there a few entries on title page and family register section that have been blanked out (see photo #5 for an example of this). Note some very light surface wear to the cover boards, but the interior is otherwise very fresh and clean- a collectible vintage Family Bible.
