Christian Hoffmann von Hoffmannswaldau (1616 – 4 1679) was a German poet of the Baroque era who was the leading representative of the “Second Silesian School,” the German counterpart to the Baroque extravagance of the Italian poets Giambattista Marino and Giovanni Battista Guarini and the Spanish poet Luis de Góngora.During his lifetime, Hofmannswaldau's poems circulated mostly in manuscript. It was the posthumous publication of Deutsche Übersetzungen und Gedichte in 1679 that assured his reputation as the most influential poet of his era, followed by Benjamin Neukirch's even more extensive collection, Herrn von Hoffmannswaldau und anderer Deutschen auserlesener und bißher ungedruckter Gedichte, the first volume of which appeared in 1695. Hofmannswaldau's style of poetry came to be known as Galant and is marked by extravagant metaphors, skillful use of rhetoric and unashamed eroticism. It shows the influence of the Italian poet Giambattista Marino.Loc: BS-FLStoreAdd to FavoritesFeedbackHofmannswaldau German Poet Collected Works 1679 Curriculum Studiorum 1700 3 VOLSet of 3 Volumes:Christian Hofmann von HofmannswaldauGesammelte Werke: Band 1 (1984) - Deutsche Ubersetzungen und GetichteTeil 1 & 2 Band II (1993) - Curriculum Studiorum und Andere Gedruckte WerkeHerausgegeben mit einem Nachwort versehen von Franz HeidukGeorge Olms Verlag, Germany, 1984 & 1993.
