Description: This engine is a custom-designed SD70 ACE Teir 4 electromotive desiel engine shell and chassis that is 3D printed. This particular model is made specifically for the Norfolk Southern engines that have the higher headlights in the cab. That is the only difference between this engine and the other listing. Please note to make this functional the light cavity will likely have to have some drilling to open the hole completely, but esthetically everything is great. The prototype of this model began mass produced in 2016 as a response to the EPA's tighter Teir 4 regulations. UP was the largest purchaser of these units at around 89 units, most of which were put into storage in 2018, of which several have been reactivated again. CSX also ordered and ran a number of these units. The other were built for BNSF and Norfolk Southern, both of which cancelled the order, so instead these engines ended up as lease units on Progress Rail. A number of engines were also built specifically for the Progress fleet as well. Most of those engines run on Kansas City Southern or Canadian Pacific. They have been painted in both the electro-motive paint scheme while some of these lease units have the yellow and white "banana" paint job or even the BNSF paint scheme. UP engines were painted to their livery, giving a modeler plenty of different color options to paint their prototype, or lots of lines to run their engines with, prototypically, fictionally, and what if. This model was based off of a static ertl die-cast model for measurements and prototype photos for better details. Included with the kit are 3 shell pieces, 3 chassis pieces, a fuel tank, 2 driveshafts, motor mount, plow, and other details such as fans, fan covers, sand domes, ditch lights and windshield wipers. All that is needed to complete it is some screws, a pair of trucks, a motor, decals, a fresh coat of paint, as well as possibly a bit of finish sanding or cleaning. Assembly is fairly straight forward, the three shell pieces slide together (pins will likely have to be sanded some), the 3 main chassis pieces slide together (They are labeled with F for front and R for rear), and the front and rear panels for the cab and rear steps are attached with glue. From that point assembly should be basically like any other engine. The chassis and shell are connected in two ways, the first is the normal manner of the coupler boxes, and there are 4 additional pins that slide through the chassis into the shell simply to ensure everything stays in place. There are plenty of additional aftermarket brass details, such as sun-shades, hoses, etc that can also be added to the model if desired. As far as a template for making your own brass handrails, the ones for the generic SD 70 ACE are almost identically but slightly shorter. The details for them are to small for me to reasonably be able to print and cure sadly. Parts that you need to specifically get, presumably from Athearn.com are:Trucks, {HO Power Truck/HTSC-2, SD70ACE/M-2 (1)} or a similar one from another retailer, EMD HTC high adhesion truck, or you can get one of the side frames to go on an existing truck. Motor, {HO Genesis Motor w/Flywheels (1)} or {HO Genesis Motor Retrofit Kit for RTR SD45/SD40} It does come with a motor mount, so you may be able to retrofit that for another motor as well.Optional:Ditch lights LED Replacement Ditch light bulbAftermarket brass details such as sunshades, handrails, and potentially a horn as there are plenty of very detailed ones out there for a model such as this. It is 3D printed using Sirayatech resin, (grey or Smoky black are the two common colors) and should be compatible with almost all types of paint. Please note a lot of time the first coat will take a few days to dry due to the nature of the resin but after that the paint applies generally normally. It does not affect the overall look or quality of the paint job just the beginning drying time. They will be printed once the order is placed, I will do my best to still get them out within 5 days, but it may take longer due to declining health of a family member, hence the listed 10 days. I will do my best to keep you updated and work through the orders as quickly as possible.Let me know if you have any questions or would like additional pictures. If you would like any of my other items in a different scale please let me know and I would be happy to work with you to see if that is reasonably possible.
