It is very cool I think to hold and read these books that were published and in use just after the Civil War. 1. GENERAL LAWS PASSED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF WISCONSIN IN THE YEAR 1866, TOGETHER WITH JOINT RESOLUTIONS AND MEMORIALS. Printed by Wm. J. Park, State Printer, 11 King Street Madison. 229 pages. 2. Same title as above. For 1867. State Printer in this year is Atwood & Rubles, Journal Office. 248 pages. The first law in this volume is to repeal a law enacted the previous year - that law was to regulate the reception of patients into the Wisconsin state hospital for the insane. 3. Same title as above. For 1868. Same printer as 1867. 258 pages. The first law in this volume authorizes the purchase of 200 copies of Webster's dictionary at a cost not to exceed $8. per copy, for distribution to school districts throughout the state. 4. Same title and printer as above. For 1869. 298 pages. The third law in this volume directs that at the beginning of each year every member of the senate and assembly $25. in postage stamps. Condition best described as fair to good. There are no missing, torn or bent pages. No interior markings. Not ex-library. Bindings holding well. Pages are not brittle nor fragile - books can be handled and read. There is some scattered staining, soiling and foxing - not of a large amount. Spines are decent. The 1866 volume is the worst of the lot, with the covers nearly detached and some light staining along the right margin. The other 3 are better. See photos please.
