Description: Up for sale is a copy of an ORIGINAL and HISTORIC Early American Newspaper "THE BALANCE, AND COLUMBIAN REPOSITORY", HUDSON, (New-York), dated Tuesday, May 20, 1806. No. 20 - Volume V. Published by Harry Croswell, Warren-Street, Hudson. Published in Hudson, New York, this weekly miscellany resembled a newspaper, having large-size pages and many advertisements. Among its varied contents were a section of moral and religious essays called "The Monitor," a section of poetry titled "The Wreath," articles on women's education and manners, an agriculture section, and literary notices. In addition there was some political material, including a section of speeches and addresses, proceedings of the state legislature and Congress, brief news items, and legal notices. Read first hand what was happening in America during Thomas Jefferson's presidency - just 30 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence (1776) and 19 years after the Constitution was signed (1787). It is an 8 page (4 pages front and back) newspaper measuring approximately 9.5" x 11.5". This issue has a continued article - "THE WASP - Revived" - By Robert Rusticoat, Esq. The paper is in Good- Condition. There is wear to the paper - there are many creases and tears along the edges. There are a number creases and in the middle of the editorials, as well. The over 210 year old paper also suffers from some staining, foxing, browning, spotting, damp stains and type fading. Small holes down the left border from where it was once bound. This is an incredible chance to read about our countries history on the original day it was reported! A great opportunity for any collector or history buff to own a true piece of American history!
