Description: Antique J Hinks & Son brass oil lamp converted to electric use with Bakelite top and glass flambeau shade. Height 49cm, base diameter 16cm. Ornate brass base and column supports a Bakelite bulb holder and tray. There has been a repair to one part of the tray (pictured) although the flambeau is still held securely by two screws. Base is stamped J Hinks & Son and the design of the brass section suggests production in the late Victorian or early Edwardian periods. Conversion at an unknown date. Lamp is fully working and has been recently rewired with a modern cord and UK plug. The lamp could easily be wired again with a more traditional looking braided flex. As it is the lamp throws out a bright warm light and is controlled by a switch on the bulb holder. There's a small chip on the top of the flambeau but no cracks or other chips.
