Description: Hillbilly Joy Joose Michigan Souvenir Moonshine Whiskey Bottle We are pleased to offer this very unique, unmarked Ozark Mountain Man moonshine bottle with cork stopper manufactured by Taneycomo Pottery of Hollister, Missouri and marketed by the Ahrold Family of Burlington, Iowa under the Parkcraft name circa 1940s-1960s. This refillable 12 oz dusky rose whiskey bottle was decorated by Ozark ladies who were deft at hand painting the faces and figures of Appalachian folk. They used free-hand techniques that gave each piece some individuality. Its front features the portrait of a stereotypical corncob pipe-smoking hillbilly wearing a black straw hat and black beard. It also reads "Joy Joose, Michigan;" but, as a container of mountain-made liquor, it actually never held anything more intoxicating than air. These pieces frequently bore the names of resort towns and states that were often far from the mountains. Aimed at the tourist trade, they were meant for souvenirs or gifts for the folks back home. This whiskey bottle stands 11" tall and measures 2 3/4" across the bottom. It has a completely dry/unglazed bottom. It is in excellent condition with no nicks, chips or cracks.
