Description: Henry Summa (1949-2008) Helix Early Work Vintage Art Glass Sculpture Cut Away Paperweight Henry Summa was an early second generation studio arts movement pioneer. We're happy to offer this piece, one of his earlier pieces, within a year of his move to his second studio in New Mexico. Summa began working hot glass in 1972, apprenticing with Glory Hole Glassworks, and opened his first studio in upstate New York. After two years he moved his operation to its permanent home in New Mexico. Summa specialized in murrini, the thin threads of fragile glass that he used to decorate his sculptures and tableware. He developed a series of faceted paperweights, platters and vessels, with extensive cutting and polishing. Piece measures 5 1/2 inches tall, about 3 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches deep.
