Description: This 1970 German stereo album from Archiv Produktion (2533 042) features performances of multiple works by Henry Purcell created for St. Cecilia's Day in 1692. They are performed by vocalists Simon Woolf, Paul Esswood, Roland Tatnell, Alexander Young, Michael Rippon, and John Shirley-Quirk, accompanied by the Tiffin Choir, the Ambrosian Singers, and the English Chamber Orchestra, directed by Charles Mackerras. The album has a triple gatefold containing album notes in English, German, and French, written by Lionel Salter. It also contains lyrics in those same languages. The outer sleeve bears a few marks: the title on the spine is mostly faded, and there is a rectangular dark patch on the lower part of the spine that extends to the front and back, possibly from a sticker that was removed later. That same corner is slightly creased on the inside of the gatefold. Also, there is a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back (Photo 2). Also included is a double-sided photocopy of the original review of the album from the March 1971 edition of The Gramophone. This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear. NOTES:Album sleeves may have a small index sticker, usually in the upper right corner of the back, which was applied when the album was first purchased for this private collection. Please be sure you know the Shipping charge to your address before bidding.
