Heublein & Bro.1892 — For an outing of the Governor’s Foot Guard, Heublein pre-mixes a gallon of Martinis and a gallon of Manhattans — an event that led to the production of the world’s first bottled cocktails, Heublein’s Club Cocktails.1914 — Heublein Tower built on Talcott Mountain.1918 — Manufacturing of A-1 Sauce begins in Hartford. Sales of the sauce are credited with helping Heublein survive through Prohibition.1939 — Heublein president John Martin buys the rights to make Smirnoff vodka from a Russian emigre for $14,000. The company goes on to find ways to get Americans to drink the clear liquor, including creating drinks such as the Bloody Mary. In less than 20 years, annual sales of Smirnoff top one million cases a year.1962 — Heublein stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.1971 — Heublein acquires Kentucky Fried Chicken.1982 — Heublein is sold to R.J.
