Description: All 20 Of Their Chart Hits - 1953-1962 (CD) Ballard, Hank & The Midnighters The Midnighters originated at the Dunbar High School in Detroit with a group formed by Sonny Wood, Henry Booth, Charles Sutton, Alonzo Tucker, and Hank Ballard. The group called themselves The Royals and signed to King in May 1952. They had their first national R&B hit Get It the following year. In January 1954 they cut Work With Me Annie, as the song climbed towards the No. 1 slot their name changed to the Midnighters to avoid any confusion with the Five Royals. In November 1959, Hank Ballard wrote The Twist and it was issued as B-side of the hit Teardrops On Your Letter. On July 18th, 1960 the Midnighters The Twist re-entered the Billboard pop chart on it's own, followed in early August by Chubby Checker's cover version (which twice reached No. 1 spot). In 1960 they became the first group ever to have three hit singles in the top fifty at the same time (it took until 1964 and The Beatles to break this record).
