HANDMADE 15TH-16TH C METALLIC STUMPWORK PANELS W EMBROIDERED CENTERS FR BELGIUM

Description: THESE STUMPWORK PANELS WERE ACQUIRED FROM A GALLERY THAT WAS LOCATED IN BELGIUM AND WERE PURCHASED IN THE LATE 1970’S. THE GALLERY DATED THESE TO THE 15TH - 16TH CENTURY. WHEN ACQUIRED THESE WERE FRAMED AND HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THE FRAMES. I AM NOT CERTAIN IF THESE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE FRONT PANELS OF A RELIGIOUS COPE CAPE OR COULD HAVE BEEN PANELS ON A JACKET. THE EDGES HAVE METAL LOOPS ON EACH SIDE. IN RICH, BEAUTIFUL DENSE METALLIC STUMPWORK WITH THE CENTERS EMBROIDERED IN RELIGIOUS FIGURAL DETAIL. METALLIC BRAIDING TRIMS ALL OF THE EDGES AND METALLIC SPANGLES RUN THROUGHOUT THE DETAIL. EACH IS BACKED IN SILK AND UNFORTUNATELY THE GALLERY GLUED VELVET PANELS ON THE BACK OF EACH TO GIVE THE CENTER A RAISED EFFECT WHEN FRAMED. I HAVE LEFT THEM INTACT IN CASE THE NEW OWNER WOULD LIKE TO REFRAME THEM, IF THEY ARE TO BE REMOVED, THE SILK ON THE BACKING WOULD BE DESTROYED. CONDITION: THE SURFACE ASIDE FROM MINOR TYPICAL AGE TARNISH THAT IS VERY MINIMAL, THE CONDITION IS EXCELLLENT, NOTE THE IMAGES.
