While his brother Angus was doing his solos in school uniform in the foreground, Malcolm, drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Mark Evans formed the powerful rhythm base that decisively shaped the AC/DC sound. Malcolm's distinctive riffs have become the band's trademark, not least because of his tough Rock sound, which he elicited from his modified Gretsch G6131.Malcolm Young was an absolute purist who focused on the one sound that made AC/DC so famous. Malcolm only needed one really good pickup, which is why he simply removed the other two pickups. Two holes remained where otherwise pickups would be. In addition, the red paint had to be removed. Done, the "Beast" was born. It looks very strange indeed, but it's absolutely authentic. And indeed, the TV Jones PowerTron at the bridge does a damn good job and immediately elicits that hard rock sound from a connected amp that made AC/DC so famous. Pure Malcolm Young! An absolute must for AC/DC cover bands! In order to create the most authentic replica of the "Beast" possible, Malcolm's original Gretsch guitar was measured and examined in great detail.. As a result, the G6131-MY received a chambered mahogany body with a glued-on maple top, a mahogany neck and an ebony fingerboard. The cool "Space Control" bridge was also designed exactly after Malcolms Gretsch.
