Just as stated on the inside liner notes sheet on this CD -- this was " One Hot ! Night " indeed ( both musically and meteorologically speaking ! ) ... and arguably was one of the Hottest ! Shows of the '90 Summer Tour ... aka. " The Great Steam Bath !!! " - and where else, but at Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium !! ... back in the day, when it was still standing proud ! And believe me, I know - because I was There ! ... and this sure-was a HOT !! one - a G.D. '90 Summer Tour Scorcher !!! Those of you who have ever had the pleasure yourselves - well-know that East Coast Summers can be rough & relentless from a humidity standpoint, and this was indeed one of those ' Dog-Days ' of Summer ... for certain ! Even though the outlook looked real-sweaty, this soon became one of the favorite days of my life ! - and this is no-joke, at all ... as the Band was on Absolute-Fire ! song-after-song, pushing almost every single chance they saw a musical pocket to expose or explore. Jerry Garcia is completely " On ! " all-throughout this Entire !! Show. It is a flawless, seamless performance all-throughout ... one with Passion, Power, Fun, and even Fury !!! Gar-cia !!!!! A Truly-Amazing ! Grateful Dead Show !!! ... and nothing ! short thereof. On ' paper ', the set list might look somewhat standard ( depending of course, on your G.D. song / material tastes, obviously ... ), but the energy & enthusiasm by the Band leads to neat happenings all-throughout both ! Sets of this 7/8/90 G.D. Magic ! From the second they hit the stage sporting some seriously fine & fancy ! ( Weir !! ) Late-80's eye-wear ( Ray-bans - Vaurnet Cats ?, etc . ) this ' View ' when seen in-person started with a little bit of Dead Fan chuckling during the Touch of Grey > Greatest Story, but soon enough - there was far-less laughing & way-more Deadhead jaw dropping !! Documented audio footage here ( in entirety ! ) of America's Absolute Best-Live & Improvisational Rock n' Roll Band - period ... the Magnificent! 7/8/90 " Soundtrack " !!! And last, but most-certainly ... not least -- Garcia weaves a split second ' cluster / blend ' of fretboard-work notes during Black Peter ( you'll know it when you hear it ! ) that remains to this very day, one of my all-time favorite guitar fret board moves I've ever seen him ( or anyone ! ) make live & on stage ! And believe me ... I've seen my fair share of Garcia ! The 2nd Set is a just flat-out Heater !, so you had just better just go & grab for your bandana ! Cheers to '90 ! ... right ? Right-on ...
