This is the pet-project of John Oswald - originally released in both 1994 & 1995 in two separately purchased parts - Part 1 & Part 2 ... and this 2-CD Set here - the 1999 release by Swell Music, Inc., is indeed the " Complete !! " release - which offers both releases in one ( 1 ) CD Set ... Both " Transitive Axis " ( Part One ( 1 ) ) ! + " Mirror Ashes " ( Part Two ( 2 ) ) !! In other words ... this one has the whole kit & caboodle - in one 2-CD Case ! - with Awesome ! Liner Notes ( including a neat ' Timeline ' chart ) too, may I add. As far as this very-cool projec t... John basically collected 40 hours of digital copies of master tapes - and hand selected the " most-interesting " parts of Drums, Space, Jams, etc.. - you know the ' Out-There ! ' and ' Pushing the Boundaries ' Live-Dead material that Only ! the Grateful Dead can do - as no band can do it just quite-like them ... He created this melded ' collaboration ' from 51 Shows - and the way that it is assembled is nothing short of Brilliant ! - and of course, very-enjoyable to the Dead Fan Mind !! It's really hard to put this one into words ... as it is so incredibly creative - and it's a pure perspective of that " It " that so many Dead Fans considered their favorite part of a Grateful Dead Show ... where the Band & Crowd would work together as a bonded-team - in a journey into the ' Unknown ' and the ' Where ? ... shall we go now ??! ".
