He is also the chairman of the jury for the awarding of the Uwe Johnson Literature Prize and the Uwe Johnson Funding Prize and a member of the P.E.N. Center for Germany. In 2012 he was nominated for the Diefenbaker Award (Canada). Birka Siwczyk studierte nach einer Buchhändlerausbildung Germanistik, Kunstgeschichte und Pädagogik (Lehramt).
