Description: Gorgeous Vintage 1940s 1950s Swing Coat/Jacket RED Wool 42" chest loose fit I purchased this gorgeous coat at an estate sale for $100 in 1999 in Texarkana, Texas. It had belonged to a socialite who had grown up in the city and was a debutante in the late 1940s or early 1950s. Her estate was full of great clothing and jewelry from mid-century. I was in HEAVEN! My husband and I moved to Florida in 2000 and this great jacket/coat spent over 10 years encased in safety bags. When I purchased the coat it had about 10-12 moth "kisses" on it in various places which I planned to have repaired or try to fill in myself with a small x of red thread over it. I have pointed out the moth holes to you in these photos. The jacket is not super short. I am 5'-3" and it hit me just below the hips. The color is, as you can see, lucious and the little decoration on the lapel really sets it off. It's sewn on and made of some sort of beading which is intact. The lining is SATIN and the pockets are unique in that the top of the fold over goes around the side of the jacket and has a button. Such an interesting design! The coat was sold by one of the top department stores in Texarkana, Ben F. Smiths Dry Goods which was always one of my favorite department stores and was in business in Texarkana for many years, at least six decades that I knew of. You were always assured of quaility at Smiths. This coat would be a great item to complete a 1940s or 1950s ensemble or pair with jeans and a tee. It's very versitile! There may be a good way to fix the moth kisses which are quite tiny but are there just the same. The coat fit me when I wore a size 12/14 and still does as I now wear a size 8/10. Because the style is looser, the size is flexible. Chest: pit to pit: 42" Sleeve shoulder to hem: 24"Collar to hem: 28" Best wishes!
