Description: Here’s a classic American trilobite from the Lower Cambrian of Nevada - an Olenellus gilberti with stunning sunset-colored mineralization. Many of the thin thoracic spines are perfectly preserved, and the genal spines are heavily reinforced with iron oxide staining them a deep black. A dark mass of manganese dendrites is also present on the matrix. This trilobite fossil is from the Lower Cambrian aged Combined Metals Member of the Pioche Shale. The exposure that produces these trilobites is near Lincoln County, Nevada. The trilobite is just over 1.5 cm on a thin 6x5cm matrix. A very convenient display piece! The first three images are of the specimen while wet, the final image is of the specimen dry.
