This Hummel comes from a smoke-free environment and is one of several that are for sale in my store. All Hummel's sold will be double boxed for shipment, whether with an original box or aftermarket box. About Hummel's:Hummel's are made by Goebel, a company founded in Germany that started in the 1800s making fine porcelain figurines and decorative plates. All Hummle's ARE made by Goebel, BUT NOT ALL "Goebel" figurines found in existence; however, ARE a HUMMEL, although I have found many people list items that say "Goebel" on them as a Hummel. This is in error. Another Misnomer is that the signature on Hummel figurines is "M" (em) "I" (eye), NOT "J" (jay). Please note that it is a facsimile of her actual signature and her "I" appears as a "J" This item IS an Authentic Hummel!!!! She is noted for her paintings which were the basis for Hummel figurines. Born in Massing in Bavaria, Germany, as Berta Hummel, was a devout Catholic and instead of the standard student housing, she chose to live in a Catholic residence run by religious sisters. Though her days were busy teaching, Hummel spent her spare time painting pictures of children. Franz Goebel, the owner of a porcelain company, was looking for a new line of artwork, and happened to see some of the postcars based on MI Hummel's drawings in a shop in Munich. Hummel agreed, mostly for its saving the employment of many workers, and the convent granted him sole rights to make figurines based on her art.
