Description: I have had this fantastic painting in my French art collection for many years. The painting is oil on canvas by well listed artist Georges Marchou (1898 - 1984). His use of colors is fantastic. He was called the last of the Fauves. The painting is in perfect condition and is in a custom made French style frame. The canvas measures 18" x 13" and with the frame 23" x 18". The painting is titles on the back "PORTAIT OF UN GENTILHOMME" and is also signed on the back as well as on the lower left front. This is an exceptional painting and will be a great addition to any collection or just to brighten up any room in your house. Please see artist bio below: Be sure to add me to your favorites list! Check out my other items! This year marks 53 years in the antique and art business in the Los Angeles area and at one time Las Vegas and San Rafael, CA. Up until 2006 we had two large stores in Los Angeles, one was in Hancock Park on Larchmont Blvd and the other on famous Melrose Ave. These days poor health has curtailed my yearly travels to Europe on buying trips. My time is spent searching leads and estate sales. My wife and I have held local estate sales for over 30 years and have a very competent staff which helps us. We are always ready to help family who need to have a sale. My first love is paintings done in France, 1900 to 1950. This period is often called the “School of Paris” and included artist from around the world that worked and studied in France. The great American artist William Merritt Chase was one of these artists along with hundreds of others from Japan, South America and Russia. I have over 300 such paintings. Many are listed on the Ruby Lane site under our shop name, Larchmont Village Antiques. My wife's specialty is antique jewelry and has been running our stores since 1981. Please watch my listing as we are buying great items daily. We find great paintings as well as estate jewelry, glass as well as other collectables. Always feel free to ask questions and I'll do my best to answer promptly. ABOUT THE ARTIST; Painter from Bordeaux, France. Student of Ernest Laurent at the School of Fine Arts in Paris.
