Description: “FRUIT ON TABLECLOTH AND FRUIT DISH (FRUITS SUR UNE NAPPE ET COMPOTIER)” ORIGINAL VINTAGE MUSEE DU LOUVRE CHALCOGRAPHIE BY THE PARISIAN PAINTER GEORGES BRAQUE (1882-1963) This rare vintage Musee du Louvre chalcographie (copper-plate engraving), after the Parisian painter Georges Braque, measures 9 1/2 x 5 3/8 inches image size. The full sheet measures 9 x 14 inches. The engraving is signed in the image lower right: G. Braque. This is an original copper-plate engraving from the Musee du Louvre in 1962. It bears the museum's blind embossed stamp in the bottom margin center. The engraving comes unframed. In 1797 the Musee du Louvre started a program of making traditional copper-plate engravings of some of the great masterpieces to be found only in museums. The original cubist painting created by Georges Braque in 1925 now hangs in the Centre Pompidou, and this official Louvre chalcographie engraving of the artwork will be a pleasure to own. PLEASE NOTE CONDITION: In excellent vintage condition. GEORGES BRAQUE was most well known for being the founder of Cubism alongside famous artist Pablo Picasso. In addition to the invention of Cubism, he did also focus on other forms of art which were prominent during this time period as well. He did work which touched on Impressionism, fauvism, and even focused on collage styles of work, which brought together a series of imaginative pieces, bold colors, and distinct shapes and styles to his work. During the wartime period, the work he put together would change in order to represent the somber, dark period the world was going through. In between wartime, he would also change the style and themes, to represent lighter times, and happier things which were taking place around him. Although he did change his style, tone, color use, and design features, he never strayed too far away from Cubism. There were also tinges or hints of this style, in every piece that he created during the course of his career, and is the reason his work was so distinct, in comparison to other artists of the time, who did not delve into as many different forms in their work. __________________________ AUTHENTICITY OF ARTWORK IS GUARANTEED.
