Description: George Owen Wynne Apperley (1884-1960) was a British artist who had a studio near the Mirador de San Nicolas in Grenada Spain, with this stunning view of the Alhambra complex and the Sierra Nevada. Apperley produced many watercolor paintings of his view of the Alhambra from 1922 through 1950s. This is one of them. His art has been exhibited extensively and is in art museums. What is unique about this painting is that Apperley here took a broader view of the scene than many of his other paintings of the Alhambra. The focus here is on the snowcapped Sierra Nevada mountains. The Spain guide calls the scene depicted here "Granada's Best View." (Google, SAN NICOLAS IN GRANADA SPAIN images.) The Alhambra was the capital of the Emirate of Granada in the 13th century. It is a medieval walled city, the residence of sultans and kings from the 13th to the 16th century. The Alhambra complex has palaces, towers, gardens and aqueducts. It is the most one of the most recognized monuments of Islamic architecture with Spanish Renaissance additions. The tall tower in this painting is the Torre de Comares. As a watercolor, this is the work of a master. Whether you're an Apperley collector or just want a beautiful picture on your wall to remind you of Spain, this is a must have. Free shipping. USA buyers only with a street address.
