Description: This is an elegant George V Sterling Silver Jewellery Box. The box is shaped as a clover leaf or shamrock and has engine turned stripes across the lid around a blank central cartouche. The inside of the lid is gilded and the base is lined with gold coloured silk. It stands on three splayed feet. The jewellery box was made in Birmingham in 1915. The makers' mark is quite rubbed but is most probably that of Joseph Gloster Ltd. Condition is good with just a couple of small dings in the body plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over a hundred years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs as these form part of the description. The jewellery box measures 6.5cm / 2.5ins by 6cm / 2.3ins and stands 3.6cm / 1.4ins high. It weighs in at 70.0g / 2.4oz but this does include the silk lining. The hallmarks, on thr front of the body, are somewhat rubbed but still clear to read apart from the makers' mark which is quite severely rubbed. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter q for 1915 and the makers' mark which we think is most probably J G Ltd for Joseph Gloster Ltd.
