The overall length is 17cm and there is a full hallmark showing the makers mark of W S (William Simpson), the anchor mark for Birmingham Assay Office, the lion passant confirming the fineness of the metal and the date letter q for the year 1814 plus the duty mark of George III. In 1890 the duty on silver was repealed, and the use of the sovereign's head on silver hallmarks was discontinued.
