Description: Description: Original art for a political newspaper cartoon by George T Maxwell (1895-1965), commonly known as "Gee Tee Maxwell", who worked for a number of papers around the country. This one, executed in pencil and black crayon, is about Philadelphia winning its bid for the Democratic National Convention, probably in 1936, but possibly 1948 (it's not dated). It shows a personification of the city of Philadelphia, as a Quaker gentleman, holding a shotgun and a donkey (personifying the convention). The title, penciled in the lower margin is "GOT 'IM!!" From the collection of Philadelphia Bulletin reporter, columnist and author James Smart. Size: Sheet is 14.25" x 16.75", drawing is 12.25" x 14.5" Mark: Signed lower left, GEE TEE MAXWELL.
