Description: This is a wonderful original oil on wood panel landscape painting by the well listed American artist George Bacon Wood Jr. (1832-1910). It depicts a rural road leading to a house with covered porch and what looks to be a barn in the distance. There are old wooden fencing on either side of the foreground. The painting is signed with an artist stamp Geo B Wood in the lower left corner. The mahogany panel measures 6 1/4” by 9 1/4” and the newer frame measures 10 1/2” by 13 1/2”. The painting is in untouched original condition. The back of the painting has a pencil inscription that looks to read ‘Manda McCord from Papa Christmas 1894”. George Bacon Wood, Jr. (1832 - 1910) was active/lived in Pennsylvania. George Wood Jr is known for Interior, landscape, genre, animal painting. A member of the Philadelphia Sketch Club, George Wood lived and worked primarily in Germantown, although in the 1870s, he lived in Elizabethtown, New York. He was known for his landscapes, genre paintings, and silhouettes.
