Description: VERY GENTLY USED, NEAR MINT, VINTAGE, AUTHENTIC, JAPANESE YUKATA COTTON KIMONO / ROBE / DRESSING GOWN, WHICH I HAVE SHORTENED TO CREATE A MATCHING BELT, SO IT CAN BE MORE EASILY USED AS A DRESSING GOWN OR ROBE - Authentic Genuine Kimono bought in Japan - Gorgeous Traditional , DARK BLUE with PRETTY MULTI -COLOURED FLOWERS & BLOSSOM This is a genuine, traditional style, cotton yukata which could make a wonderful dressing gown, housecoat or robe. This yukata was originally bought from Japan and I have adapted it by shortening it to a more normal length and creating a matching belt. This kimono was bought in Japan, was made for the Japanese market. I suspect it is old stock and has a little age because it was originally partially hand stitched (cuffs, hem, some inner seams) and is excellent quality cotton. Since adapting the kimono to a more wearable length, the hem is now machine stitched. Authentic Japanese women's kimono tend to be very long indeed, as they are traditionally shortened by a complicated process of hitching up at the waist with the excess material being folded, tied and hidden behind a wide obi belt. So contemporary kimono are often around 60"/152cm to 65"/165cm long, which is very over long on an average height woman. This means that in order to use a kimono as a dressing gown, it needs shortening. I have done the hard work for you and shortened this kimono to a more 'normal' long length and used the excess hem material to make a matching belt. Now the kimono can more easily be used as a dressing gown or a kimono robe. This kimono is made from good strong, excellent quality cotton with smooth texture. The cotton is fairly soft. The base colour is typica,l being a very dark blue. The patterning is traditional and shows a very pretty and feminine design of large flowers with long strappy leaves and with vertical stripes of tiny blossom flowers. The main colour is white with graduated shades of pink, turquoise blue and a little golden yellow. This yukata is unlined which is quite usual for this sort of summer wear kimono. In Japan yukata are worn for casual summer occasions/festivals. AGE & CONDITION: I suspect it has a little age because it is partially hand stitched, smaller in size, and the cotton is great quality, which all suggest age. There are not labels so I would suggest 1980s. It is often difficult to date kimonos accurataley because they traditional garments which were made in a similar fashion over decades. It appears to be in near mint condition with no faults to note. I have shortened the kimono to a more 'normal' length and made a matching belt. This is a vintage item in great overall condition but please don't expect it to be exactly like new. SIZE: The size is a bit smaller than contemporary kimono. It was originally typically very long and I have shortened it to a more 'normal' length and created a matching belt.It should fit a range of sizes as it is a wrap round style up to a maximum of UK size 10/12 . Please check the measurement below against your own robe or similar garment, to check the fit.Cuff to cuff width is 130cm/51”.Overall length is 138cm/54.5".The width across the back (side seam to side seam) is 57cm/22.5”. The width all round at the waist is about 48"/122cm and please remember you need a good crossover in the front The belt is about 165cm/65" long. The weight is about 500g. YUKATA comes from ?YU? meaning bath and ?Katabira? meaning under-clothing. Over one thousand years ago court nobles wore linen Kimonos or ?yukatabira? which were draped loosely over the body after taking a bath. Yukata gradually became worn by the warriors, who would also use the yukata like a towel to dry after a bath. The general public began to wear cotton kimonos about three hundred years ago when the Japanese public bath became popular. These kinds of light weight cotton kimonos were worn everyday as casual clothing after taking a bath?bathrobes! Now the yukata is widely used for everything from traditional Japanese dance, for summer festival wear and casual wear in the summer, to simple night attire. Today, yukata generally means an unlined cotton kimono for casual wear. WASHING information - Most yukata can be hand or machine washed at cold/cool temperatures. Some can have colour runs in water, so please test before washing and wash separately. If you need any more information, please send me a message. All information is to the best of my knowledge. It is not usually much cheaper to combine postage especially to overseas. Sometimes it is actually cheaper to send two or three small parcels than one large one. Combined postage for UK buyers, depending on what you buy, I will look into the most secure and economical way to send combined parcels and advise you of options. But again as the weight and value of the parcel rises so does the postage cost. Please do not expect large savings on combined postage.
