This booklet traces the life and career of Mitchell, from his birth in Pennsylvania in 1886 until his death in 1950 following his sixth heart attack. In pictures and text, it covers his graduation from West Point, his early tour in the Philippines, his association with the Wright Brothers, his first adventures in learning to fly, his role in forming the Air Force in World War I, career assignments in Washington, his association with General Billy Mitchell which almost cost him his career, relief programs he organized, his promotion to General, his association with General Douglas McArthur, and his appointment before World War II to Chief of the Air Corps. His World War II career is discussed in detail -- his role in strategic planning, the ramp-up of airplane production, efforts to secure funding from Congress, his role as a service chief during the War, and his accompanying President Roosevelt to major war conferences to include Casablanca and Tehran. He also had a vital role in the selection of Hiroshima as a target for the first atomic bomb, delivered in 1945. This publication measures appx 9 1/4 x 6 inches and contains 38 pages. The cover is a heavy semi-glossy cardstock, and the content pages are a high-grade paperstock.
