GE has made lights with a style A base for the last several years, but earlier strings use a different base. You can also remove these bulbs from their base to use a different style or color of base. Base is .44" long overall, it is inserted .36" into the socket and the inserted diameter is .25". .425 watt bulbs are usually used in 100 count string lights, using the wrong wattage will cause a dim or quickly burned out bulb, so check the wattage you need.
