V5026 NOTE: STAMP HAS FAULTS, DAMAGE DUE TO POSTMARKING* The new (4 April 2024) £2.50 King Charles definitive is used on First Class (Airmail) mail outside Europe. The color is "gooseberry green." This 140mm x 95mm (5½" x 3¾") envelope was received in the USA on 5 August 2024, with no date and a computer barcode at the base. There are two light, almost vertical, creases on the envelope, resulting in creases to the blue BY AIR MAIL label, bottom left corner of the stamp, and both bottom corners of the Barcode. The was due to being rejected for postmarking by the automatic postmarking machine. *As the hard protective contents were much smaller than the envelope, IT APPEARS that it was ATTEMPTED, but REJECTED for postmarking at the local Mail Center, where the stamp and adjoining Barcode were damaged. It was then HANDSTAMPED (creases and all!) by a 25mm square block wavy-line device. WHAT HAPPENED TO QEII DEFINITIVE STAMPS? Since 1 January 2024, after a grace period allowed by Royal Mail (the U.K.'s postal service), all British Non-Barcoded Queen’s Head (Machin) and Country definitive Stamps are no longer valid for postage. Letters and packages franked with these stamps are returned to customers (senders) by Royal Mail uncancelled and without postmarks.
