Description: La Reunion de la Lorraine a la France -- inscribed by Lyautey Author: (Military, Gay Studies) Lyautey, Marechal Louis Hubert Gonzalve Title: La Reunion de la Lorraine a la France -- inscribed by Lyautey Publication: Paris: Librairie Plon, 1926 Edition: First printing Description: Hardcover. First edition, 1926, no. 270 of 2200 copies, small 8vo, printed wraps, very good, SIGNED BY AUTHOR in 1929. 50 pp, lightest wear. Lyautey served in various positions in Africa and Madagascar, served as the Resident-Generale of Morocco from 1912-25, and briefly was Minister of War in 1917. Lyautey was well known as a homosexual, and inspired one of Clemenceau's baser quips: "an admirable and courageous man who always had balls up to his ass. It's just a shame that they are not always his." He is also thought to be Proust's inspiration for Baron de Charlus. Very Good.
