Description: [Garth Williams] Archive of Notes/Correspondence for Golden Animal A-B-C c. 1952-54 Archive of Material Related to Publication of the Book The Golden Animal A-B-C, Simon and Schuster, 1954. Twenty-one individual items total, including holograph notes, lists, ideas, hand-corrected typescripts, correspondence, etc., circa 1952-1954. Numerous notes and lists, with hand-corrections, presumably in Williams’ own hand. Many items pencil signed or initialed by Garth Willams. Alphabet list corrections show significant shifts in tone/content: Ape to Alligator, Goldfish to Giraffe, Polar Bear to Pig to Panda (the letter “X” seemed to pose a particular challenge). With manuscript notes from Dorothy Bennett (co-creator of The Little Golden Books franchise) and typed letters signed by Priscilla Weaver and Don Hull of Simon and Schuster. Each item labeled with a penciled catalog number from the Garth Williams estate to verso: 3.00505 – 3.00525. Housed in original manila folder with ink and pencil notation. Contents generally rubbed, toned and creased, some with tears and or minor loss; folder gently rubbed and worn, with erasure to front cover. A fascinating glimpse into the creative process of a globally beloved children’s author/illustrator. Overall very good. YLG-00863A
