Description: Garden in My Heartby James J. Metcalfe Copyright 1949; First EditionPublished by Halcyon House: Garden City, NY James J. Metcalfe was an American poet whose "Daily Poem Portraits" were published in more than 100 United States newspapers during the 1940s and 1950s. Metcalfe wrote hundreds of short poems about the human condition that appealed to people across a vast spectrum of careers and backgrounds. Metcalfe mused about love, friendship, life, religion, time, old age, youth, candy, vacations, holidays, envy and numerous other subjects. In later years, in the dedication of one of his books of poetry, he promised his readers that he "will not touch my pen, except it be in prayer to God, or praise of my fellowmen." Garden in My Heart is a collection entirely of religious poems. In the book's preface, the publishers wrote, "[The author] has realized that his poetic ability is a gift from God and that it was given him to use for the joy and encouragement of his fellow beings." Hardcover without dust jacket. Water stain along right side. Wear to corners and edges. Some staining on cover. Remnants of something on rear inside endpapers. Last page is folded under at corner. Binding seems tight and printing is bright with neat pages (no folds, tears, or notes in margins). Your purchase supports the Free Library of Northampton Township
