Gabriel Erector Set Number 500 PROBABLY COMPLETE (set 8)

Description: 04-23-22 (date I built it) 1980 or 1981 Erector 500 set 8 ************************************************************** NOTE: FAIRLY COMPLETE. I do not have an itemized inventory sheet for these type of sets like I do for the typical steel box sets, so I can only try to make it complete based on the picture on the box. There could be some parts that are not in the picture that are missing. CONTROLLER IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL! ********************************************* Gabriel Erector 500 Set 8 DETAILS: ——————————-——————— This set is in very good shape for a set sold in the 1980s. I’d say this set has been well cared for since it was so nice. THE CONTROLLER AND BOTH MOTORS WORK! The outer cardboard box is in very good condition and has some deterioration on the ends. These cardboard boxes have to hold a lot of weight and that is tough on them. Even the best ones I have seen and purchased have some damage. The styrofoam insides are in good shape. This set has the very rare clear plastic cover that holds all the parts in the styrofoam box. It has some tears and missing parts, but it does do the purpose. This cover is clear, not yellowed as some are. See photos. I have laid this set out using the picture on the back of the box and placed every part where it is in the picture thereby being able to inventory this set and try to make sure that it is 100% complete. There is no accurate accounting for the small parts like screws and nuts and little plastic pieces but since the whole set matched the picture on the box I have reason to believe that all those parts are also still with the set. It is very rare to find a set that has been inventoried in this manner since it is so time consuming. I did not take the time to make sure that all of the parts are arranged in a pretty matter, just positioned for the purpose of inventorying. This is the perfect Christmas, birthday or anniversary gift! Get it for your child or perhaps dad or grandad had one when they were young! Or buy this for someone very special in your life to just proudly display like I have had done with my 55 sets for many years. What else can you buy that is about 40 years old that still looks like this? Certainly not 99% of all the things produced back then, including cars! This will be one of the about the 104 th set I’ve sold in the last few years. It is rare that I have put together one of these newer sets. I have typically restored sets from the 40s and 50s. See my other listings. I will be selling 7 more 725 sets, 4 - 200 sets, and 3 - 375s set in the near future. This 500 set came along and was in good enough shape that I had to save it. I am selling a lot of sets lately. Many are my customers who have bought one, two and even now 8 sets from me! I have sold 4 sets in the past month. Some sales are not on eBay. The Size 500 is the second biggest set in this newer series, 200, 375, 500 and 725. You should easily be able to sell this set in a few years as Erector Sets get even more valuable and make quite a bit of money! A 40 plus year old anything is always collectible Condition: Metal: The set is in really good shape! All of the plating is in very good shape for its age. Some of the shine is worn off of the parts and some have turned a little black due to age. This set does not appear to be played with very much (not much scoring in the plating from screws or nuts being rotated) Tools This set is complete with all of its tools. All are in good condition. It is rare to find a set with all of its tools. This set has the original pale yellow screwdriver. 1 screwdriver - original 1 factory correct Wrench - original (painted) 2 Motor/transmissions: The 4.5 volt electric motors with transmission assemblies operate like new. They both run very quietly. The power pack (CONTROLLER) included can run each motor separately in forward, off, or reverse direction. This allows you to run one motor in forward and one motor in reverse direction so that u can spin your model on a dime! This motor and power pack combo is way nicer then the old 110 volt single speed motors of the past especially since there is variable speeds. The transmission has a round hole with a flat on it that accepts any of the axles to run the tire/wheel assemblies. Power pack: (CONTROLLER) is 100% FUNCTIONAL! The power pack holds 3 size D batteries (not included) and works perfectly in forward, reverse and off position. It has variable speeds and a lock for holding it in full speed. I have tested this unit and the included 2 motors. The 2 motors also works great! Every set I sell works and I put a sticker that says “GOOD” to keep track of what I have tested. If a set does not work, I will tell u. Many other sellers will write “untested” on their sets. I hate to say it, but if they haven’t taken the 3 minutes it takes to test these simple motors, I think the parts don’t work and they just fib and make u think they don’t know if it works or not. I do not do that. I let u know up front that this controller and motors ARE TESTED AND WORKING PROPERLY. Sometimes the batteries don’t make contact well and u have to rotate them a bit to get it to work, but I did have everything working. See pictures Chassis: This set has the correct bigger chassis as it should have. Painted parts: I really like this set because all of the Painted parts have really nice colors and are the original paint and look good for their age, almost like new! See photos Axles: This set has many axles in various lengths and are in great shape. Manual: There is a very nice manual in this set. See photos Case/box: The outer cardboard box is in average condition but has a few defects on the ends and some tears. Wear is typical of the era. The styrofoam tray is in good shape, a few missing chunks. See photos. Screws nuts and washers and small parts: There is a bag of screws and nuts and washers and P37 collars. There is also a good sized bag of plastic parts including a hook with a pulley and a double pulley that allows you to increase the lifting power of your motor. These are not counted and could have a few missing, but there are quite a few. There is also some string and a hook. This makes a great collectors item or a wonderful way to build with your son or daughter or grandchildren and give them some time away from the TV or computer. What a gift! You will not be disappointed with this set! Because it appears to be complete It is one of the most collectible sets sold on eBay and certainly not the most expensive! Please look carefully at the photos as they are a better indication of the items condition than my descriptions. Feel free to ask any questions BEFORE bidding.
