Description: A unique and charming heart shaped inkwell produced by the Desvres Fourmaintraux-Freres faience factory between 1875 and the early 1900s. Decorated in the style of Rouen faience, it is hand painted and has a removable ink container and the three holes for fountain pens. A perfect addition to any French faience or inkwell collection. It is signed twice on the bottom with the "F"s of Fourmaintraux-Freres. In very good antique condition with no cracks or repairs identified. There is a glaze chip on the top outer edge of the heart and the bottom edge, along with some glaze crawling on the bottom edge and associated wear. There are two tiny divets in the clay on the top originating from production since they contain some glaze and show the ductile deformation of pre-fire. See pictures for condition issues. Dimensions are approximately 3 5/8" t x 4 1/4" w x 4 1/2" d. *Seller has researched the authenticity of this item as described and believes it to be accurate.
