Description: A beautifully hand carved Freeform studio bench in solid walnut by master craftsman Herbert Millstone circa 1963. Millstone was known to host lunch parties for the likes of Paul Evans, Phil Powell and George Nakashima as they would discuss their craft and enjoy his carefully designed sun garden. Herbert was a master landscaper having served many high end clientele in the Eastern Pennsylvania area over the course of his career. His woodwork was heavily influenced by Phillip Lloyd Powell, George Nakashima and Wharton Esherick as is apparent in this bench. It is absolutely stunning in its careful execution. The legs are doweled through the top for solid, sturdy construction. The top is thoughtfully carved at the wide end adding an organic feel. In excellent vintage condition having no damage. 18.25x60x12” HWD
