Description: Franklin Pierce (November 23, 1804 – October 8, 1869) was the 14th president of the United States, serving from 1853 to 1857. He was appointed New Hampshire's U.S. Attorney in 1845. He took part in the Mexican–American War as a brigadier general in the Army. He was seen by Democrats as a compromise candidate uniting Northern and Southern interests and was nominated as the party's candidate for president. The South eventually seceded and the American Civil War began in 1861. President Pierce Ink signature on an off white irregularly clipped slip and affixed to an identical size card. Archivally shadow boxed framed with a gold in-laid, sterling silver portrait plate issued by the Franklin Mint in the early to mid 70’s, and an engraved portrait to an overall size of 17x27. Minor scattered light vintage toning and closely trimmed edges on signature cut, otherwise very fine condition, oversized.
